The Ryan Murphy thriller series left a majority of fans’ questions unanswered as it came to an end on Oct. 30
As the first season of Grotesquerie comes to a close, so, too does Travis Kelce’s scripted TV debut. But could we see him return if the Ryan Murphy series is renewed for a season 2?
The Oct. 30 finale episode of the thriller series, which saw Niecy Nash-Betts plagued by a sick and twisted serial killer, gave fans some answers to their long-awaited questions. Yet, it ultimately left off with a major cliffhanger, as the identity of the killer, known as Grotesquerie, wasn’t revealed.
There were also very few deaths among the major cast, as Nash-Betts’ Lois Tryon and Kelce’s Ed Lachlan both emerged unscathed. Courtney B. Vance, Raven Goodwin, Micaela Diamond and Lesley Manville’s characters also survived through the finale.
Charlie (Nicholas Alexander Chavez), who was a priest in Lois’ dreamscape but her doctor in real life, did not make it through alive. He was among the final slew of victims in the finale episode, and Megan (Diamond) found him crucified and later called Lois in to help her. One of Marshall’s (Vance) students who had accused him of sexual assault was also among the victims with Charlie.
Given that Kelce’s character — among others — survived the season finale, there’s certainly a possibility that if Grotesquerie gets renewed for a season 2, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end, 35, will reprise his role.
In the finale episode, Kelce’s character Ed got rid of the mullet that shocked fans in episode 7 — when it was revealed that Lois had been in a coma the whole time, and the show’s entire plot had been happening inside her head — and he enlisted Marshall to join a men’s rights group with him.
In a potential season 2, Ed’s relationships would need some clarification, after it was revealed that he cheated on his wife Merritt (Goodwin) with Lois, Merritt’s mom.
In an interview with Deadline following the season 1 finale, Nash-Betts, 54, said there is “absolutely” more story to tell as she weighed in on what questions season 2 would need to answer.
“There still are a few questions I’m waiting to have answered, and all things being perfect, we would have a season 2 to unpack it,” she told the outlet. “If not, that means me sitting at a dinner with Ryan for hours telling me where he planned on this story going.”
Obviously, the “huge unanswered question” remaining is who Grotesquerie is. “Right now in therapy, the doctor says Grotesquerie is an amalgamation of all of the evils that have happened in the world in [Lois’] mind, but then these crimes start to happen, literally. So wait a minute. So then, what does that mean?”
