Will Smith Hijacks TikTok Star’s Post To Perform Early Hit ‘Just The Two Of Us’

Will Smith has hopped on a video that a 10-year-old guitar-playing TikTok star made to add his flair with an acoustic version of his late ’90s hit, “Just The Two Of Us.”

The Hollywood star shared the video to his Instagram on Thursday (March 9), rapping over Ellen Alaverdyan’s guitar cover of the Grover Washington Jr. and Bill Withers song that Smith originally sampled.

In his caption, he praised the young talent’s work and tagged in a few musical friends to continue the trend. “Wow!! @ellenplaysbass, this is FANTASTIC,” Will wrote. “You are the Sweetest! Tagging in @jacross @elewrockjazz.. Put somethin’ on it.”

“Just the Two of Us” was the fourth single taken from Will Smith’s wildly successful 1997 debut album, Big Willie Style. The song reached No. 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1998.

The comment section on Smith’s post was littered with fans asking if he’d seen Chris Rock’s recent comedy special, as the infamous slap from the 2022 Oscars of course made its way into Chris’ jokes. The famed comedian also made a joke about his now-nemesis the night prior, bringing Smith’s new film into the bit.

According to Decider, Rock fired off a biting joke about hate-watching Smith’s new slave film while performing at the Hippodrome Theatre in Baltimore, telling the crowd: “The other day, I watched Emancipation just so I could watch him getting whipped.”

The 58-year-old also reportedly mentioned Smith’s portrayal of Muhammad Ali in the 2001 biopic Ali, contrasting it with his own role as the homeless drug addict Pookie in 1991’s New Jack City.

“The thing people wanna know … did it hurt? Hell yeah, it hurt,” he said. “He played Muhammad Ali! I played Pookie. Even in animated movies I’m a zebra, he’s a fucking shark.”

Rock also called Smith “Will Knight” in his Netflix special – a reference to the infamous Death Row Records boss Suge Knight. While the joke wasn’t necessarily painting Suge in a positive light, the incarcerated exec’s son still appreciated his father’s name continuing to be relevant.

“We all know Suge Knight as that guy that’s all about that action. You know, whatever he does, he’s gonna do that,” Suge J. Knight said in an interview after the special. “So it’s funny to see that Suge been in jail for a minute but he still has this legendary status with who he is. So it’s just dope.”

When asked what he think his father’s reaction would have been, he responded: “He woulda said, ‘These dudes is not like me.’ But he woulda laughed though. We all know the real. ‘These dudes ain’t like me.’ … I was really bored with the special until that happened. I’ma be honest.”
