WhyThe Bold and the Beautiful’s Katherine Kelly Lang Has Already Written Her Daytime Emmys Acceptance Speech (Exclusive)
“You never know what’s going to happen, so you should be prepared,” says Lang who has starred on the long-running soap since 1987
Katherine Kelly Lang is ready for whatever may come at the 51st annual Daytime Emmy Awards.
The Bold and the Beautiful actress, 62, who received a nomination in the outstanding lead actress in a drama series category, told PEOPLE at the Celebrating Aspiring Magazine Summer Edition event on Tuesday, June 4, that she has an acceptance speech written up because “you never know what’s going to happen.”
“I knew I had to. I’m not very good at speeches. I don’t love speaking in front of people,” explains Lang. “I’m an actress, but I like being in front of a camera, not in front of a bunch of people. But in case. You never know what’s going to happen, so you should be prepared.”
The daytime legend has even gone as far as practicing how she would recite it onstage.
“Every time I say it to myself, I say it differently. So I’m just hoping that the day of, if it were to happen, that I can get it all out. At least I have the bullet points,” says Lang.
The soap star, who has played Brooke Logan on The Bold and the Beautiful since its debut in 1987, has never won an Emmy.
She tells PEOPLE that while she hopes that it will finally be her year, she was actually “very shocked” to be nominated.
“I didn’t expect it. I’m very picky when it comes to scenes that I submit, and sometimes I don’t submit, and I just don’t bother to submit for the Emmys. And in fact, this year, I didn’t want to,” says Lang.
“Because when I go back and look at everything, I don’t like it. And I think that’s an actor’s perspective. You know what I mean? Then you get really picky about what you do. And then also if you’re thinking, ‘Oh, people are looking at your work out of context.’ And that bothers me,” she continues. “It’s like they don’t know the lead-up. They don’t know the story that’s been going on to lead up to that moment.”
While she adds that picking out her outfit for Friday’s ceremony has been a “last-minute” process, she says that she’s looking forward to “be able to chat and hug and say hello to all the other people on the other shows because we don’t do that very often.”
