Wendy Williams Says She Had ‘No Idea’ Ex-Husband Filed Lawsuit – Wendy Williams is speaking out about her ex-husband Kevin Hunter’s latest legal move.

Speaking to TMZ on Thursday, June 19, the TV mogul said she had “no idea” Hunter was filing a $250 million lawsuit on her behalf, suing her legal guardian, Sabrina Morrissey, and the judge presiding over her guardianship case, Lisa Sokoloff.

“Nor do I want him to be a part of my life like that, no,” Williams continued. “Because I’m divorced forever.”

Williams and Hunter were married for more than two decades before divorcing in 2019.

“He’s a money-grubber; he’s always been that way,” the former talk show host added of Hunter. “It’s good to know that he’s doing such evil things — again.”

Of her outlook on the lawsuit Hunter filed on June 17, Williams said, “He won’t win.”

Williams’ attorney, Joe Tacopina, confirmed to PEOPLE that she “absolutely didn’t [know about the lawsuit].”

Tacopina also noted that Williams “is not happy about it,” either.

“He has no standing to add her name [to the lawsuit] or no authority from Wendy whatsoever,” they attorney said of Hunter. “And we certainly don’t need his help if we want to file a lawsuit. So, thanks, but no thanks.”

The lawsuit, filed June 17, names 48 defendants, including Morrissey and Sokoloff, who Hunter alleges have violated Williams’ constitutional rights and kept her in a years-long guardianship.

Also named are Wells Fargo and her assisted living facility.

PEOPLE has reached out to Morrissey, Hunter, Sokoloff, Schiller and the assisted care living facility for comment on Hunter’s lawsuit, while Wells Fargo declined to comment.

The filing notes that it isn’t seeking to end Williams’ guardianship. Instead, Hunter is requesting a “new impartial guardian,” the unsealing of her case files, her release from “involuntary confinement,” a full forensic accounting and $250 million in relief for financial loss, reputational damage and harm, emotional distress, legal expenses and deprivation of liberty.

Hunter, a co-plaintiff, is also seeking to be named as Williams’ “next friend,” a role that would give him the ability to legally act “on behalf of an individual unable to assert their own rights and when no guardian is acting in their best interests,” per the complaint.

LaShawn Thomas, Hunter’s attorney who filed the lawsuit, previously acknowledged to PEOPLE about Williams’ lack of involvement in the lawsuit.”Unfortunately, she is not legally aware of all the evidence that supports our claims that she should not be forced to suffer from this guardianship,” Thomas said.

Thomas’ statement continued, “I plan on laying out sufficient evidence to support our claims and ensure that her rights are vindicated and she is made whole financially.”

Williams has recently asked to be freed from her legal guardianship, which was first ordered in spring 2022. Morrissey has been the only person with unfettered access to Williams under her guardianship.

Williams was later diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia (FTD), her medical team announced in February 2024.

On Jan. 16, Williams made an appearance on The Breakfast Club for a rare interview with Charlamagne Tha God.

“I am not cognitively impaired but I feel like I am in prison,” she said at the time.

“Listen, this system is broken, this system that I am in. This system has falsified a lot,” she said, noting she does not have access to her money. “For the last three years, I have been caught up in the system.”
