VIC MENSA SPITS JA MORANT BARS AS NBA STAR ADDRESSES SECOND GUN SUSPENSION
Vic Mensa has spoken out in support of Ja Morant following his second gun-related suspension, and even spit a few bars about the embattled NBA star.
TMZ caught up with Mensa on Tuesday (May 16) in New York City, where he kicked a few rhymes referencing Morant’s controversial fascination of firearms that may end up on a future song.
“My momma keep telling me to stop, I can’t — the second time they caught me with that gun, damn, I feel like Ja Morant,” he rhymed.
The Chicago rapper then got serious about Ja’s situation and wished him nothing but the best going forward as the 29-year-old believes Morant was blessed with a gift and doesn’t want to see that go to waste.
“I think God blessed Ja Morant, man,” Mensa said. “I pray that that brother gets it together and he figures it out because he’s too brilliant and so talented. He’s got a gift, he’s got a real gift.
“So, I don’t want to see him have to go down that path because he’s so good. I think God blessed him. I’m not gonna say anything to disparage him. There’s enough people doing that.”
Vic Mensa also addressed the narrative that NBA YoungBoy’s violent lyrics are to blame for Ja Morant’s off-court behavior, and said the Baton Rouge rapper shouldn’t be held accountable as he’s purely speaking his truth.
“Ultimately, NBA YoungBoy, he’s just telling his truth and doing his thing,” Mensa said of Morant’s favorite rapper.
On Tuesday, the two-time NBA All-Star broke his silence after being suspended by the Grizzlies for a second time following a viral clip of him brandishing a gun on Instagram Live while in a car with friends.
“I know I’ve disappointed a lot of people who have supported me,” he said in a statement “This is a journey and I recognize there is more work to do. My words may not mean much right now, but I take full accountability for my actions. I’m committed to continuing to work on myself.”
Morant was previously suspended for eight games by the Grizzlies in March after being caught on Instagram Live waving a gun inside a gentleman’s club in Colorado following a loss to the Denver Nuggets.
He then attended a rehab facility for a brief stint and met with NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, who expressed his disappointment in Morant for yet another mishap.
“Honestly, I was shocked when I saw this weekend — that video,” Silver said on Tuesday night. “Now, we’re in the process of investigating it.”
