Travis Kelce Reveals His Best and Worst Subjects in School and They Might Surprise You
The Kansas City Chiefs tight end host ‘Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity?’ premiering on Wednesday, Oct. 16
Travis Kelce always loved sports as a kid, but he wasn’t bad at school, either.
During an interview with Extra published on Wednesday, Oct. 2, the Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity? host, 34, said he was “one of those kids that tested rather high” in school but was “playing sports more than studying.”
The Kansas City Chiefs tight end, however, noted that when it comes to questions on the show—which tests celebrities on a range of subjects pulled from elementary school curriculum — his “realm” is “STEM, science, math, things like that.”
“I just stay in there. But any history questions, I’m like, ‘I don’t know if anybody knows that,’ and sure enough, everybody does but me,” he joked.
The NFL star credits his brother, Monday Night Countdown commentator and retired player Jason Kelce, as being the “very studious” one.
“He was an honors student,” said Kelce. “He tested well and all that and everything. He decided to be in all advanced classes. I was like ‘that’s too much homework for me.’ But yeah, Jason, I think he would do pretty good [on the show].”
“I’ll be interested to hear him talk about it when he sees it,” he added.
The football player, who is also part of the Grotesquerie cast, shared when confirmed as the host of the Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader? spinoff in April that he “grew up loving game shows.”
“I’m excited to be following in the footsteps of so many TV icons by hosting my very first one with Are you Smarter than a Celebrity? The original show is a great success, so to be bringing a new format with everyone’s favorite celebrities to the screen, will definitely be entertaining.” he said.
“I’m just happy to be on the hosting side of the equation here and excited to see how these famous faces keep up,” his statement continued.
The famous faces set to appear on the show include comedians Nikki Glaser, Natasha Leggero, Nicole Byer and Ron Funches, Vanderpump Rules’ Lala Kent, and podcaster Sophia Stallone.
Rounding out the contestants are Lilly Singh, Thursday Night Football analyst Ryan Fitzpatrick, former NFL wide receiver Chad Ochocinco, Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Garcelle Beauvais.
