Taylor Swift has been invited to be an honorary mayor of Tampa for a day. A few days before she made an “Eras Tour” stop at Raymond James Stadium, the “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” hitmaker was enticed with the title of “Mayor Swift” as she was presented with a key to the city of Tampa.
On Monday, April 10, the 33-year-old singer got a special offer from Tampa’s Mayor Jane Castor. “We are so excited to welcome you to Tampa April 13th through the 15th,” the mayor stated in a video clip shared via the City of Tampa’s official Twitter account.
“Let me tell you, our weather never goes out of style. Your fans have spoken and they want to know what we are doing to welcome you to our beautiful city,” Jane went on to explain to Taylor. “We know Glendale changed its name, Arlington made a street sign, and Vegas illuminated their Gateway Arches, but here in Tampa, we’ve got a reputation to uphold.”
Explaining what they had to offer, Jane continued, “We want to go bigger. So I want to present you with a key to the city and invite you to be our honorary mayor for a day. Mayor Swift has a nice ring to it.” The mayor then added, “We can’t wait to welcome you and your fans to Tampa (Taylor’s Version).”
The special treatment for Taylor did not stop there. The “Bad Blood” singer had the city of Tampa official account turned its Twitter handle to “City of Tampa (Taylor’s Version)” per Monday, April 10.
Additionally, a tweet from the City’s official account spilled, “In addition to presenting @taylorswift13 with a key to the City and inviting her to be Tampa’s mayor for a day, the City of Tampa will be lighting Old City Hall, the @tampariverwalk, and downtown bridges red in honor of the Era’s Tour. #TSTheErasTour.”
Taylor is expected to perform at Raymond James Stadium for three nights from April 13 to April 15.
