Swizz Beatz & Alicia Keys Keep It Classy At 2019 Met Gala

Swizz Beatz & Alicia Keys bring green to the red carpet.

Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys have won hearts as hip-hop’s low key favorite power couple, though they tend to avoid the limelight. That’s not to say they duck it completely, as evidenced by their latest Met Gala appearance last night. While the iconic Gala encourages celebrities to go the extra mile where fashion is concerned, some use the opportunity to showcase an understated and elegant look. Alicia Keys and Swizzy opted for the latter, donning matching green outfits from Carolina Herreradesigned by creative director Wes Gordon.

With the theme for this year’s Gala being “Camp: Notes on Fashion,” it seems like a tenuous connection can be made between the green color and the general color palette of “nature.” Either way, the subtlety of Swizzy’s attire is admirable, and Alicia Keys proves that she can still steal a show with relative ease. For those keeping score of the Met Gala fashion round-up, where do you feel Alicia and Swizz landed in the grand scheme of it all?

While hardly as bombastic as Cardi’s “feminism” inspired red dress or Ciara’s extravagant piece, there’s something to be said about keeping it simple amidst the kaleidoscopic chaos. It all raises the question, were someone to spill wine on Swizz’s suit, would he yell “GODDAMMIT!!?”
