RIHANNA’S STREAMS SURGE FOLLOWING SUPER BOWL HALFTIME SHOW

Rihanna‘s major performance at the Super Bowl LVII Halftime Show resulted in what has become her biggest streaming day on multiple music platforms, including Apple Music and Shazam.

According to a report from Apple Music on Monday (February 13), Rihanna’s concurrent worldwide listeners on the platform jumped a whopping 331%. The hour following her performance also became her biggest hour in Apple Music history with both concurrent listeners and streams.

The spike turned out to be greater than any artists who performed at last year’s Super Bowl halftime show – which includes Dr. Dre, Mary J. Blige, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg and 50 Cent.

Additionally, Rihanna’s 2007 smash “Umbrella” reached and/or returned to the charts in 105 different countries – breaking a record for the song. It also currently sits as the No. 1 song among fans on Apple Music’s new karaoke service, Apple Music Sing.

“We Found Love” also reached and/or returned to the charts in 92 different countries and became her most Shazamed song from the Halftime Show, while “Work” re-entered the charts in more than 50 countries. Spotify also reported similar gains with streams of “Bitch Better Have My Money” increasing 2600%, “Diamonds” by 1400% and “Rude Boy” by 1170%.

The singer’s highly anticipated performance took place at the State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona on Sunday evening (February 12). As promised during her Apple Music press conference on Thursday (February 9), the show consisted of a medley of songs from all but her debut album.

Within minutes of the end of the show, Rihanna’s representative confirmed what many were speculating after the performance – that she is expecting her second child with boyfriend A$AP Rocky. The pair are already parents to a 9-month-old son, whose name they have yet to share with the public.

Not everyone was a fan of her performance, however. Donald Trump called it the “worst” Super Bowl performance of all time and called out Rihanna for “foul and insulting language” – and Kodak Black soon echoed the same sentiments.

“Uncle Trump said that shit is garbage, man,” he said in a video posted to his Instagram Stories.

The Florida rapper has been heavily supportive of Trump since he pardoned him in January 2021. At the time, Kodak was in the middle of a 46-month sentence stemming from a 2019 federal weapons conviction.
