Quavo To Perform TakeOff Tribute At 2023 Grammy Awards

Quavo will pay tribute to his late nephew and Migos groupmate TakeOff at the 2023 Grammy Awards.

The Recording Academy announced on Wednesday (February 1) the lineup for this year’s In Memoriam segment, which remembers the beloved music figures who have passed away since the last awards ceremony.

Quavo will take the stage at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on Sunday (February 5) to perform his tender TakeOff tribute “Without You” alongside the Maverick City Music choir.

The song — which features Vory and was produced by Zaytoven, Murda Beatz, Mike Dean and others — dropped on January 4 and marked Quavo’s first release since TakeOff’s death.

“Tears rolling down my eyes / Can’t tell you how many times I cried / Days ain’t the same without you / I don’t know if I’m the same without you,” he sings over somber, stripped-down production.

TakeOff (real name Kirshnik Khari Ball) was shot and killed outside a Houston bowling alley on November 1, just weeks after he and Quavo released their collaborative album Only Built For Infinity Links.

The Migos hitmaker is said to have been an innocent bystander to a dice game involving Quavo and other men when an argument broke out and shots were fired, fatally wounding the rapper in his head and torso.

A 33-year-old man named Patrick Clark, known locally in Houston as DJ Pat, has been charged with TakeOff’s murder. Clark has maintained his innocence and was released from jail on a $1 million bond last month.

Much like his cousin and fellow groupmate Offset, Quavo has openly grieved TakeOff’s death on social media. In November, he shared a heartbroken letter on Instagram saying goodbye to his relative/partner-in-rhyme.

“Dear Take, it’s so hard to tell you Ima miss you because you always with me and we did everything together,” he wrote in part. “I’m proud we saw the world and done things we couldn’t ever imagine together.

“You will continue to send your blessings down from Heaven and I will continue to keep your name alive as long as I live…Love you nephew!”

While the Recording Academy has yet to announce the full lineup of performers at the 2023 Grammys, reports suggest that JAY-Z will be among those gracing the stage, despite his contentious relationship with the awards show.

According to HITS Daily Double, Hov could join DJ Khaled for a performance of their “God Did” collaboration, which is up for three awards including Song of the Year, Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performannce.

It remains to be seen whether Beyoncé and Kendrick Lamar — who have nine and eight nominations, respectively — will also be hitting the stage.
