Pharrell Williams has been accused of stealing independent fashion designer Kellie Ford’s idea. After debuting his Louis Vuitton show during Paris Fashion Week, the “Happy” singer was called out for allegedly using her concept.
The claim about the 50-year-old was made by Kellie in a video posted on TikTok. In the clip, she explained to her viewers that the singer used her idea to turn Louis Vuitton’s paper shopping bag into a leather tote bag. She said, “So back in 2020, I have went viral for this Louis Vuitton shopping bag that I turned into a purse.”
“And when I say viral, I am talking about, oh, you hit the shade room. We got a couple thousand views. I’m talking 10 million views on Twitter,” she went on to explain. “Creative direction for Louis Vuitton, they dropped what looks like is the bag. Yeah, it’s crazy. So this is the bag actually having the 10 million views on Twitter. That was when I created it. This is the bag that for real dropped this season.”
The allegation drew mixed responses. In the comments section of the post, one TikTok user wrote, “Nah. They could literally sue you for making a profit off them without authorization. Ma’am.” Another chimed in, “I remember them bags…very cute. But let’s be serious. That’s their name u were using.” A third penned, “This is a what came first the chicken or the egg cus it’s their shopping bag that she made into another bag so they also made it into bag.”
In the meantime, a fourth stated, “We remember! You did that!!! I thought of your bags when I saw his. But didn’t Bloomingdales do it first with the little brown bag purses? But what do I know?” A fifth supported Kellie by saying, “When I saw it come down the runway I IMMEDIATELY thought of your viral video… so it’s NO denying YOUR influence when they ‘designed’ that bag.”
Pharrell being accused of stealing the fashion designer’s concept came a few days after he debuted his Louis Vuitton collection during Paris Fashion Week. On Tuesday, June 20, his designs for the fashion house’s Menswear Spring-Summer 2024 collection were displayed. The event had Hollywood stars come as the guests including Jay-Z, Beyonce Knowles, A$AP Rocky, Rihanna, Zendaya Coleman, Kim Kardashian, LeBron James and Lewis Hamilton.
