The Prince of Wales will also be joined by Billy Porter and Robert Irwin as he takes his environmental initiative to South Africa on Nov. 6
Actress Nina Dobrev and model and TV host Heidi Klum are bringing their star power to Prince William’s annual Earthshot Prize awards.
Dobrev and Klum will be joined by entrepreneur, rapper and actor Tobe Nwigwe and model and beauty entrepreneur Winnie Harlow to announce the five winners from each category in Cape Town, South Africa, on Nov. 6.
“As someone who uses my platform to advocate for a better future for our children, I am deeply inspired by The Earthshot Prize’s ambition to find and support solutions for a healthy planet,” Klum said in a statement. “I am so happy to be a part of the incredible evening the Earthshot Awards has in store to celebrate innovators and encourage our youth to be part of building a better future.”
Vampire Diaries alum Dobrev added, “As someone who cares deeply about the health of our oceans, I have been so inspired to see the Earthshot Prize focus on identifying solutions across Africa and around the world that will help ensure these vital ecosystems are protected for generations to come.”
Prince William’s Earthshot Prize seeks to recognize groundbreaking ideas and innovations to heal the planet, awarding leaders, entrepreneurs and businesses in five key categories: Protect and Restore Nature, Clean Our Air, Revive Our Oceans, Build a Waste-Free World and Fix Our Climate. Each winner receives $1.3 million, providing them with the support needed to scale their ideas.
It is the fourth iteration of the prince’s award show, following the inaugural awards in London in 2021, Boston in 2022 and Singapore in 2023. The awards ceremony sees winners emerge from the 15 finalists, who were announced by William in September.
It is Earthshot Prize’s first event in Africa, and the continent is reflected in both the host and the entertainment set to perform at the ceremony. The celebration will be hosted by award-winning South African television presenter Bonang Matheba alongside multi-award winning singer and actor Billy Porter.
The lineup includes acts from across the continent of Africa as well as Grammy-nominated artist and producer Davido and artist Diamond Platnumz. South African composer and producer Lebo M, with the Ndlovu Youth Choir and DJ and producer Uncle Waffles are also among the artists slated to perform.
The week of activities taking place around the glitzy prize-giving night will be hosted by actor, humanitarian and Earthshot Global Ambassador Nomzamo Mbatha. She will have support from fellow ambassador and Australian TV star Robert Irwin. They will both help facilitate events and high-level dialogues that aim to unite current and former Earthshot Prize finalists, environmental champions and others who can help scale their ambitious projects and plans.
Porter’s co-host Bonang Matheba added, “I am excited to celebrate these incredible innovators who are making a significant impact on our planet, as well as highlight the vibrant spirit, resilience and unwavering commitment of environmental leaders across Africa and from around the world.”
William, 42, is traveling solo to Cape Town, as wife Princess Kate is still not fully returned to public work since she was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year. In September, she announced she had finished her chemotherapy, but added, “My path to healing and full recovery is long and I must continue to take each day as it comes.”
