Met Gala: A Cockroach Makes Surprising Walk On Red Carpet In Viral Clip
An unexpected guest made an appearance at the 2023 Met Gala. At the biggest fashion event, which took place at Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on Monday, May 1, a cockroach made its debut as it waltzed on the red carpet.
The cockroach quickly caused stir as veteran Getty Images photographer Kevin Mazur snapped a series of up-close images of it. The photographer even faux-stomped on the insect as it went near a flight of stairs. While it remained undeterred at first, Variety reported that it met its demise before making it inside the venue. “It is with deep sadness that we must report the #MetGala cockroach was stepped on,” the publication tweeted.
It didn’t take long for videos and images of the insect making its way through the Met Gala carpet to go viral on social media. A video posted by Pop Base has garnered 4.7 million views with 96.4k likes on Twitter as of now.

Upon watching the clip, Internet users couldn’t help but crack jokes about the cockroach. “Imagine a cockroach outdressing everyone at the met gala,” one person said. “Honestly a cockroach stealing the snow and ‘walking’ the Met Gala carpet is the most fantastic thing I’ve ever seen in my entire life,” one other added.
“imagine if it started flying.. fun would’ve been over real quick,” one user commented. “Such an honor to attend this years gala,” another joked. Meanwhile, some others made hate comments by referring to some celebrities.
The cockroach mishap aside, a plenty of stars showed their best style at this year’s Met Gala, which was officially titled “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty”. Doja Cat and Jared Leto paid homage to the fashion icon’s beloved pet Choupette by turning into a cat for the occasion.
Serena Williams and Karlie Kloss made use of the event to announce their pregnancies with their second child. Meanwhile, Kendall Jenner and Lil Nas X opted to arrive in sultry ensembles for the night.
