Meghan McCain Slams Meghan Markle: ‘This Is Why The World Doesn’t Like You’

Meghan Markle’s upcoming lifestyle show has drawn the ire of a fellow Meghan.

On Thursday, streaming platform Netflix shared a trailer for the Duchess of Sussex’s new series, “With Love, Meghan” — and although many of her fans celebrated the video, a daughter of the late Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) did not.

“I was originally a Meghan Markle supporter. … Now that she wants to be American again instead of British aristocracy what she seems to forget is Americans want real, raw, uncensored,” Meghan McCain wrote on social media, apparently referencing how the California-born duchess had stepped away from her royal duties and relocated to North America in recent years.

“All of this even in the trailer is highly curated, produced and out of touch. … We are a country in rage, uncertainty and intensity right now,” added McCain, a writer and political commentator.

“This concept is ill advised. I would have told her to do a show helping bring fresh food to food deserts in low income neighborhoods. Do something to help people instead of your ego. This is why the world doesn’t like you, nothing else. Just completely and utterly tone deaf to the moment.”

McCain’s screed not only cited the burden of grocery costs on everyday Americans, but also seemed to reference two high-profile incidents that shocked the country in the past week: an explosion outside President-elect Donald Trump’s Las Vegas hotel, and a vehicular attack in New Orleans that left over a dozen people dead.

McCain noted that she’d initially supported her fellow Meghan, but that this changed following the duchess’ falling-out with the royal family — a split that had triggered a torrent of criticism and personal insults from observers.

The deal that made way for the duchess’ Netflix series was first revealed around the time of her exit from royal life. According to the streamer, her show will largely center on topics like cooking and gardening.

“Our focus will be on creating content that informs but also gives hope,” she and her husband told The New York Times in a joint statement from 2020. “As new parents, making inspirational family programming is also important to us.”
