Meghan Markle Graces The ESPY Awards With Surprise Appearance Supporting Prince Harry
The Duchess of Sussex was at Harry’s side as he accepted the evening’s Pat Tillman Award for Service.
Meghan Markle turned the ESPY Awards into a royal affair while attending the honors with husband Prince Harry on Thursday night.
The Duchess of Sussex beamed as she sat in the audience and watched Harry accept the Pat Tillman Award for Service for founding the Invictus Games, an event for active duty and veteran military members who were wounded in their line of work.
During his speech, King Charles’ youngest son dedicated the award to the “thousands of veterans and service personnel from over 20 nations who have made the Invictus Games a reality.”
“This award belongs to them, not to me,” he said.
Earlier in the evening, host Serena Williams gave a shoutout to the couple, with whom she is friends.
During her opening monologue, the tennis star joked, “It’s, well, actually only pretty often that I get to be in a room with actual royalty, and tonight is no exception.”
Taking a moment to rib her famous pals, Williams went on, “But please, Harry and Meghan, try not to breathe too much tonight. Because this is my night, and I don’t want to be overshadowed by the accusations that you guys are taking up too much oxygen, OK?”
