Lizzo’s health issues continue. On Monday, May 8, the “About Damn Time” hitmaker revealed on social media that she’s forced to postpone another show, this time in Hartford, as she’s in the midst of battling a nasty case of strep throat.

“Hello Hartford, it is me,” Lizzo said in an audibly croaky voice in a video. The singer, who cozied up in a fleece hoodie and silk sleeping cap, added, “As you know, I canceled my Montreal show ’cause I was experiencing extreme flu-like symptoms. I tested for COVID and it’s negative. However, I did test positive for strep throat.”

She continued, “Though I’m feeling stronger, my body, my throat is still extremely raw and swollen. My lymph nodes are swollen, and the doctors say that it would not be wise to sing while my throat is like this.

“In the past, I have pushed myself because I always want to bring you guys an incredible show. And I want to bring you guys the best of me,” she went on to explain. “And I’m realizing as I mature that this is not the best of me. I need to heal so that I can be the artist that you guys deserve and maintain my body. Still hurts to swallow, still hurts to speak, but it really hurts to cancel.”

In the caption, Lizzo shared that all tickets for her planned show at Hartford, Conn.’s XL Center will be honored for a rescheduled date. “I’m sorry Hartford…I’ll be back stronger and better, I hope you can be there too,” she wrote in the caption.

Prior to this, Lizzo canceled her Montreal show just hours before she was set to take the stage at Bell Centre in the Canadian city. The 35-year-old explained what happened behind the last minute cancellation in a clip shared on her Instagram account. “I had a sore throat last night and a headache, and I went to bed,” she shared while being wrapped in a blanket with a mask covering her face.

“I woke up this morning and my body is weak and I have chills, and my head hurts,” the “Truth Hurts” songstress went on to say. She continued, “Normally, if it’s just a cold, I’d shower, I’d eat, take some medicine and it gets better. But this is getting worse. I think it’s the flu. And I have to make the unfortunate decision to cancel today.”

In the same video, Lizzo assured devotees that their tickets would still be valid for a new show date. “I want to find a date to reschedule, but I just can’t perform tonight,” she added. “This is the second time I’ve ever had to cancel due to health, in my entire career, and I will make it up to you Montreal. I’m so sorry.”
