Lil Wayne Reacts To Young Thug Being Named Most Influential Rapper, Thug Respond

Lil Wayne is not in agreement with Young Thug being named the 21st Century’s Most Influential Rapper.

Last month, BBC published an article that has somehow taken a month to get noticed by the hip hop community. The article boldly named Young Thug as the most influential rapper of the 21st Century. It’s finally making the rounds in the hip hop community, and now everyone is giving their commentary of what they think. If you know anything about hip hop culture, you will know that almost everyone has their top 5 favorite rappers locked away in their minds. This means if you publicly praise any one artiste it will definitely cause a stir, and this is exactly what happened, even requiring one of hip hop greats, Lil Wayne, to take to Twitter.

The BBC publication as chronicled Thugger’s musical journey and the impact the rapper’s “idiosyncratic rhymes and unconventional sounds” have had on the new talents emerging out of Atlanta and by far America.

For many people, including mainstream rappers, Lil Wayne is the number one rapper on their top 5 list. This is quite understandable as Wayne has been performing since 1996 at the age of 13. He has been featured on some of the most iconic hip hop tracks in the past two decades and has birthed the careers of quite a few considered acts now considered G.O.A.T.s.

Many other rappers have paid homage to Wayne in songs and interviews, in the way they look, in their styles and flows. The likes of Kanye West, Kendrick, 2 Chainz, and even younger acts such as Trippie Redd, Jacque, Lil Dicky, Migos, and so many others have saluted the Young Money Entertainment boss.

Even Young Thug has been known to credit Lil Wayne for his talents and influence, and in this case, Thugger did once again. The BBC article states, “Even someone as revolutionary as Thugger couldn’t have existed without his acknowledged idol, Lil Wayne, whose slurred codeine hexes splintered rap’s possibilities in a thousand directions.” Thugger even had plans to name his album Tha Carter VI back in 2014 to show his respect for his idol.

It seems Lil Wayne is actually speaking out about Thug being called the most influential rapper of the decade. Lil Tunechi tweeted, “Me, that’s who.”

Sadly Wayne did not publicly state that he was referring to Thug, but the rappers are not the best of friends. Thug’s associates allegedly fired shots at Lil Wayne’s tour bus back in 2015 after Thug was forced to change his plans to name his 2015 album Tha Carter VI.

While the relationship between the two has not developed into something good, the younger acts still look up to them. We get the likes of Gunna and Lil Baby coming from Thugger’s camp. Thug also went pop when he was featured on Camila Cabello’s track that shot to the top spot on the charts. With this in mind, it is correct to state that the influence of Young Thug is not been properly recognized.

However, the stance of the BBC publication is being heavily contested by fans who claim that Young copied his style from Lil Wayne; therefore, he cannot be the most influential. One comment said it best, “Listen to @2chainz song, Dedication. Not just new rappers but older rappers. People forget how young Wayne is. How long he has been doing this..”
