Katie Taylor avenges Chantelle Cameron defeat on points in bloody ‘Fight of the Year’ contender

The Irish boxing superstar avenged the lone loss of her boxing career to with a majority decision victory at Dublin’s 3Arena on Saturday night.

Following ten rounds of pulsating action, which left the DAZN commentary team and fans all over the world stunned, one judge couldn’t split the two women.

However, his 95-95 scorecard was overruled by the two other ringside officials who saw the fight 98-92 and 96-94 in favour of Taylor.

The official confirmation of her revenge result triggered wild celebrations from the usually mild-mannered boxer and her loyal supporters.

Taylor’s night almost started with a disaster when she was seemingly dropped by a Cameron jab at the end of the very first round.

Fortunately for the 37-year-old, the referee called it and slip and she was able to work her way into a fight that quickly gathered pace and never slowed down.

By round four, Cameron had a massive cut on her forehead from repeat head clashes – but the ringside doctor took one look at it and allowed her to keep fighting.

In round seven, boxer-turned-commentator Andy Lee proclaimed Cameron vs Taylor 2 ‘Fight of the Year’ before later telling viewers they were ‘witnessing greatness’.

Former middleweight world champion Darren Barker, who joined him in the commentary booth, branded the match-up ‘one of the best fights I’ve seen.’

After becoming a two-weight undisputed champion, Taylor sent a message to anyone who called her the underdog ahead of the Cameron rematch.

She said: “Two-weight undisputed champion, that sounds very nice.

“That was the longest six months of my life waiting for this rematch.

“This was my real homecoming tonight. ”

“Whoever wrote me off, you don’t know me very well.

“Don’t ever doubt me.”

Taylor and her promoter, Eddie Hearn, immediately talked up a trilogy fight at Dublin’s Croke Park.

The 80,000-seater stadium certainly seems a fitting venue for such an eagerly anticipated fight – but only time will tell what’s next for Taylor and Cameron.
