Ackles will appear in the episode slated to air May 12.
Justin Hartley has tracked down who will play his onscreen brother.
In a video posted to his Instagram thanking fans for watching his CBS drama series Tracker, he revealed that Jensen Ackles is joining the cast as a guest star to play the estranged brother of Hartley’s character, Colter Shaw.
“It’s been a great response, we’re thrilled and over the moon,” he says to start the video. “I have a little bit of news for you. We’ve been talking about Russell Shaw, my brother, all season, [with] this family drama that’s been going on between Colter and Russell.”
He continues, “We finally came up with what I think is the perfect casting choice. This person knocks it out of the park every time.”
Hartley then shows Ackles, whose attention is on the arcade game he is playing instead of his new costar, joking, “We agreed to do this together, but he is in the middle of something.” Eventually, Ackles gives him a sheepish grin as the video ends.
Ackles joked about the interaction in a comment on the video, writing, “I put that caution tape up for a reason. Me and Galaga can get messy. I had too much fun mixing it up with you, Hartley. Let’s do it again.”

Ackles’ Russell will appear in the episode slated to air May 12, which per an official logline, sees Colter forced to team up with his brother, who enlists his help to track down a former army buddy who’s gone missing after several weeks of paranoid behavior. The investigation takes the brothers into the world of Special Forces missions, shady off-the-books programs and conspiracy theories, all while they contend with their family’s past.
Tracker is an adaptation of Jeffrey Deaver’s novel The Never Game, which follows “reward seeker” Colter Shaw as he uses survivalist skills to track things and people — for a price, of course.
