JIM JONES ADDRESSES CAM’RON FRIENDSHIP ON ‘STATUS UPDATE’

Jim Jones has shed some light on his friendship with Cam’ron on the song “Status Update” off his new collaborative album with Hitmaka titled Back In My Prime.

In the song featuring Goldiie, Capo reflects on several things in his life that have gone down, such as his incredible run in the second half of his career. However, one of the more interesting lines he dropped was about his relationship with his Dipset brothers.

“I be in the streets, they are asking where Juelz at / I wouldn’t know the real reason why he fell back,” Jim raps before going into his verse about Cam. “Been in the cold freezing we would sell crack / Boy, I put some demons in this hellcat / And it’s hard for me and Cam to see eye to eye / I love him, and I still hug him but when I see him it’s like hi and bye. It’s kinda crazy, I thought it was ride or die…next subject.”

The Diplomats have had their fair share of issues in the past. By the mid-2000s, the friction between Cam and Jim began to sprout and would never fully dissipate. Throughout the years, both sides would throw shots, from Cam making t-shirts mocking Jim’s relationship with Chrissy Lampkin to Capo appearing on stage with Killa’s rival at the time, 50 Cent.

Jim Jones extended an olive branch in 2009 to get the group back together again, which they did a year later with the comeback single “Salute,” however, tensions rose again in 2016 when the two were at odds. Capo dissed Cam for being friends with someone he had beef with at the time, and Killa reportedly took Jim off the song “Oh Yeah” featuring Juelz Santana.

They continued throwing shots at each other well into the late 2010s, but fans rejoiced when The Diplomats reunited in August 2021 to take on The LOX in Verzuz. Despite the reunion, nothing seems to have changed, as Jim told Angie Martinez in February 2022 that he hadn’t spoken to Cam since the Verzuz matchup.

“When Cam gets an interview, he’s going to say, ‘This is something that Jim wanted, he offered to give me his money to do this event.’ Yes, n-gga, I did,” Jim said before he was asked if Cam regretted doing Verzuz and taking a loss. “I don’t know, I haven’t spoken to him since the Verzuz.”

Jim was also asked if Cam was “mad” about any part of the Verzuz matchup and he shrugged it off saying: “I don’t know, Cam making a shitload of money, who cares. … Cam don’t care about too much, he makes money and that’s what he cares about.”

Jim Jones and Hitmaka released their collaborative album last Friday (March 10), and it comes equipped with eight tracks that include features from Jeremih, Ty Dolla $ign, Stefflon Don and more.
