It’s difficult doing Highlife in Ghana – Bisa Kdei cries
Highlife singer and song writer, Bisa Kdei has expressed his deep displeasure on how Ghanaians have downplayed their indigenous music Highlife whiles they yearn for other genre of music which are foreign in nature.
To him, though Highlife will never die but said the attitude of Ghanaians towards the genre has made it difficult for those in the industry.
Highlife music in recent years in Ghana has gradually gone down considering its listenership and how it was appreciated in the 18th century to the earlier part of the 21st century.
Many critics say the media today has not helped the Highlife music while others think Highlife artistes in the country in the 21st century have not been able to produce the kind of music Ghanaians want.
But speaking on Sika FM in Kumasi in an interview monitored by MyNewsGh.com, Bisa Kdei said: “It is true, Highlife is difficult. It’s just as I speak with you. It about you telling a story, therefore it is even difficult for people to listen to all that you say in a track. It sometimes looks like forcing people listen to my story. Meanwhile, people are busy doing their own things hence to get people to listen to Highlife is difficult. But when you are accepted, that is the best thing”. He told Buju Banton host of the show “Flavour Zone”.
But the “Brother Brother” hit maker, on the other hand, counselled that ‘in whatever you do, you have to do it well for people to appreciate and that will take you to places”.
