I want to change the trend by producing and singing only sensible songs – Kofi Kinaata
Two time VGMA songwriter of the year, Kofi Kinaata has called on his fellow musicians to do songs that reflect the realities of society instead of always singing about love and bodily shapes of women.
He said musicians should serve as tools for community development with their God given talents but refuted claims that his new song ‘things fall apart’ is directed at chastising only churches or pastors.
“My new song talks about many things we see in our current dispensation. I don’t know why some people are saying I’m criticising churches or pastors in the song but I spoke about politicians, Muslims, adulterers etc”.
Kofi Kinaata during a celebrity interview with Central Music Awards 2019 Best Presenter Nominee Amansan Krakye of Radio Central fame in Cape Coast revealed his motivation for writing good songs.
“The main reason why I concentrate my efforts on doing good songs is because of my father.
“My father always says that apart from the likes of CK Mann, Amakye Dede n co all the songs we do by our current generation is chuff so I want to prove him wrong that we can also sing sensible songs.
“We need to do songs that those who are also in their 40s, 50s and 60s can sit down, listen to and enjoy whilst singing along.
When he was quizzed if he’ll consider to write songs for other artistes because he’s considered as one of the finest songwriters by many, Kofi Kinaata said
“Even the thing koraa they said I’m not a songwriter and that I’m a lyricist so how can I write songs for some people.
“Just now they have started showing me my position so no need to worry myself.
“We’re not finished products yet, we’re still learning so I would have to concentrate for now and not get ahead of myself”
