‘Hit The Quan’ Rapper iLoveMemphis Arrested On Multiple Charges In Miami

Southern rapper iLoveMemphis, whose breakout track “Hit the Quan” peaked at No. 15 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2016, has been arrested after partying too hard in Miami.

Per TMZ, the viral rapper — real name Richard Maurice Colbert — was handcuffed on Saturday (May 7) after the Miami Police Department received a call claiming rowdy guests at a nearby block party were throwing bottles at passing cars. According to the police report, authorities found over 50 people partying at the local residence. Upon arrival, they were approached by a shirtless, severely intoxicated iLoveMemphis who was slurring his words and reeked of alcohol.

Police moved in to arrest the 29-year-old rhymer after he refused to identify himself. Cops claimed when they attempted to restrain iLoveMemphis, he tensed his arms and upper torso and began screaming at police as they tried to cuff him. Once restrained, Memphis was placed into a police cruiser, which is when he reportedly started calling officers an “immigrant” and a “pussy ass.” He was booked on multiple charges, including resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.

iLoveMemphis rose to fame thanks to a dance move originally performed by Rich Homie Quan in the video for his 2015 single “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh)”. Quan’s moves kickstarted a dance challenge on Vine, which is when iLoveMemphis created a standalone track based on the dance titled “Hit The Quan.” The track was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) on December 18, 2015.

In a 2015 interview with Billboard, Memphis claimed he only spent $35 to make the song.

“The only money I’ve spent was $35 for the studio time,” he told the outlet. “I owe my engineer $5 because she charged me $40. I’m trying to stand strong behind being independent. I’m making all of this happen from social media. I’ve met with every record label; they’re having a bidding war. That happened for a reason: so that I can realize what I was doing on my own.”
