Garcelle Beauvais Admits She Doesn’t Want to Be Her Son Jaid’s Modeling ‘Momager’: ‘I’m Busy’ (Exclusive)
The mom of three is proud of her son’s career but wants to make sure her boundaries are in place
Garcelle Beauvais is proud of her son’s budding career, but she wants to make sure she doesn’t cross a line.
Recently speaking to PEOPLE at the 49th Annual Gracie Awards in Beverly Hills, Calif., the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star, 57, shared that her son Jaid, 16, is following in her footsteps and pursuing a career in the modeling industry.
“It’s crazy. It’s so crazy to see,” the proud mom tells PEOPLE. “We just did a photo shoot, and he was so cool and calm, and it was wild, you know? But I think it’s going to be good for him. He’s kind of shy, so I think this’ll help him.”
“He’s got the chops to do it, so it’ll be interesting. I don’t want to be his momager. I want him to figure it out,” Beauvais admits. “I need him to get his license though, so he can drive himself because I’m busy.”
Beauvais is mom to sons Oliver, 31, and twins Jax and Jaid, 16. She is also grandma to Oliver’s son Oliver Jr., 3.
The twins were part of a focal moment in the season 13 premiere of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, where family time at the beach turned into a serious conversation about Beauvais’ parenting relationship.
Jax lamented not having “more freedom,” to which his mom said she felt that his desire to seek more independence wasn’t “letting me parent you.”
“That’s fair. I understand where you’re coming from, that you want to be more of a parent to us. But I needed that two years ago, instead of now,” Jax responded. “Most of the parenting and teaching me how to live, I know how to do all of that by myself.”
Shocked by the admittance, Beauvais asked where he was, saying that she “wasn’t your mom then,” to which he agreed. In a later confessional, the mom of three admitted, “Hearing it from him is like a knife to the heart.”
Beauvais then apologized to her sons, and Jax apologized in return, adding, “I’m glad both of us can admit fault from the past and mature from that. I think I turned out fine.”
Smiling, Beauvais agreed, “I think you’re gonna turn out great.”
For Christmas this year, Beauvais celebrated the holiday by spending quality time with her three sons and her grandson.
