Flavor Flav and Alexis Ohanian donate more than $7K to Olympian who can’t afford to pay her rent
From Public Enemy to public ally.
Flavor Flav stepped up to financially support a struggling US Olympian who could not afford her rent.
Veronica Fraley, who is set to take part in the women’s discus throw competition Friday, wrote via X Thursday, “I compete in the Olympic Games TOMORROW and can’t even pay my rent 😒
“my school only sent about 75% of my rent while they pay football players (who haven’t won anything 😂) enough to buy new cars and houses 👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾”
Flav, 65, then wrote in the thread of the post, “I gotchu,,, DM me and I’ll send payment TODAY so you don’t have to worry bout it TOMORROW,,, and imma be rooting for ya tomorrow LETZ GO,!!!”
The Public Enemy member, whose real name is William Jonathan Drayton, Jr., followed up with a separate post via X to prove he is a “man of [his] word.”
The “Fight the Power” rapper shared a screenshot of a message he sent Fraley, 24, and wrote alongside of it, “Imma try and come by and support you in person tomorrow ,,, LMK what time.”
Flav has become one of the unsung heroes of the 2024 Olympics, as he is sponsoring the US women’s water polo team.
“One thing about me, I know what it feels like to want to see a dream come true,” the former “Flavor of Love” star recently said.
“I know what it feels like to want to achieve a goal, and I’m the type of person that, if I see you trying, then I’m going to do whatever I can to help you.”
Aside from Flav, Alexis Ohanian also showed his philanthropic side by donating to Fraley as well.
The Reddit founder, who is married to tennis superstar Serena Williams, said in response to the athlete’s post Thursday, “C’mon now! I’ll split it with @flavorfav.”
He then shared a screenshot of a Venmo payment he made to Fraley for $7,760 which had “‘Murica” written alongside it.
Ohanian, 41, added in his post, “Update! It is done.”
When someone asked whether Fraley’s rent was $15,500 since the tech mogul had said he’d pay half, Ohanian wrote back, “Nah I just paid 7,760 because I like the number (my firm is @sevensevensix ).”
Fraley expressed her appreciation in a post Thursday, writing, “THANK YOU & @FlavorFlav SO MUCH 😭🥹 this makes every difference in the WORLD & I hope to represent team USA well this week 🇺🇸❤️”
Olympians reportedly don’t receive a salary for competing, but per NBC, the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee pays athletes $37,500 for gold medals, $22,500 for silver and $15,000 for bronze medals.
