ESPN announcer called out by cohost for implying Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are married: ‘I’m in trouble’
Troy Aikman is the latest commentator to accidentally imply that the Grammy winner and NFL tight end tied the knot.
ESPN play-by-play announcer Joe Buck doesn’t think his cohost Troy Aikman should call it what you want.
When Aikman accidentally referred to Taylor Swift as “the missus” while the two were calling the Kansas City Chiefs and New Orleans Saints NFL game on Monday, Buck was quick to point out the error.
In a clip of the funny exchange on social media, the camera pans to Swift cheering on a play involving her boyfriend, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. “The missus likes it,” Aikman said after the play, which happened in the second quarter of the football game.
Aikman quickly moved along, talking about the play at hand and analyzing Kelce’s movements in it. Buck clearly couldn’t shake it off, though, and interjected, “You know they’re not married?”
“Oh, I know,” Aikman replied while laughing at himself. “I’m sure I’m in trouble for saying that.”
Buck didn’t rib his cohost too hard for the goof though. “It happens,” he told Aikman. “My daughters have warned me multiple times today: ‘Dad, I know you think you’re funny. Don’t make any jokes.'”
Aikman is hardly the first sports commentator to make the error. On numerous occasions last season, Tony Romo on air referred to Swift as Kelce’s wife before catching himself.
During a conference call before the Super Bowl earlier this year, Romo clarified that he was only joking around, but it hasn’t stopped fans from approaching him with questions.
