Drake Blamed For Jake Paul’s Boxing Loss To Tommy Fury

Drake was jokingly blamed by Jake Paul as the reason for losing to Tommy Fury in their boxing match over the weekend.

Social media personality Jake Paul went up against British boxer Tommy Fury — famously Tyson Fury’s half-brother — at the Diriyah Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on Sunday night (February 26). After eight rounds, Fury ended up winning by split decision despite being knocked down in the final round.

During a press conference after the fight, a reporter brought up the fact that Drake bet six figures on Paul to win and questioned whether the infamous “Drake curse” was at play.

“Did you hear about Drake betting $400,000 on you tonight and do you feel like that effected you through the Drake curse?” she asked.

Jake Paul responded: “Fuck! This is Drake’s fault! Drake, bro! Why you do this to me! Nah, it’s my fault, but $400,000 is nothing to him.

“He’s won a lot of money betting on me before so he’s probably about even now. Sorry, Drake. I’ma get that W in the rematch.”

Drake took to Instagram prior to the eagerly anticipated fight to reveal he bet $400,000 on Jake Paul to win by knockout, which would have returned over $1.4 million at 3.60 odds.

Unsurprisingly, it didn’t take long for Drizzy to remove the post from social media.

Jake Paul was most recently spotted hanging out with Drake on the island of St. Barts in the Caribbean for New Year’s Eve.

The “Drake curse” has been a thing over the years as a result of the rapper taking photos with an athlete or showing his support for teams/individuals before losses.

In the past, stars such as Serena Williams, Conor McGregor, Anthony Joshua and Paul Pogba have all been subjects of the debate.

Earlier this month, however, Drake jokingly attempted to reverse the curse by rooting for the Philadelphia Eagles during Super Bowl LVII.

The 6 God’s efforts didn’t quite pay off as the Eagles lost 35-38 to the Kansas City Chiefs, but that appeared to be part of Drake’s plan as he had $700,000 riding on a Chiefs victory.

According to Boardroom, Jake Paul’s prize money was reportedly a guaranteed minimum of $3.2 million plus 65 percent of pay-per-view revenues, with Tommy Fury earning $2 million and 35 percent of PPV money.

After final numbers are determined, Boxing Kingdom estimates Paul will earn approximately $25 million and Fury around $7 million.
