DANNY BROWN SHARES ‘QUARANTA’ RELEASE DATE & TRACKLIST, DROPS NEW SINGLE ‘TANTOR’

Danny Brown looks set to drop some new music as he’s finally announced a release date for the sequel to his seminal sophomore LP.

On Tuesday (October 17), the Detroit native revealed that Quaranta will hit the public domain on November 17 after years of delay. The title translates to “40” in Italian and has been described as the “spiritual bookend” to XXX, released as a celebration of Brown’s 30th birthday in 2011.

The 11-cut tracklist will feature cameos by Bruiser Wolf, Kassa Overall and MIKE. Additionally, the 42-year-old will play a limited number of shows this winter in support of the new release: three in the United States and one in the United Kingdom.

XXX instantly put Danny Brown on the map. The album stood because of the overt honesty with which he rapped about the dark places his mind went to amid his severe drug use at the time.

Over a decade later, he is a changed man. The “Grown Up” MC is unique because he is among the handful of creatives who have managed to overcome their vices while holding on to the creative energy they spark.

With songs like “Die Like A Rockstar” and bars that go: “Sniff when I get up/ On the balcony drunk/ Like the world is mine/ Staggering inside with my robe untied,” his untimely demise seemed imminent. Fortunately, he managed to turn things around just in time.

During an interview with Rolling Stone published in September, Danny opened up about his recent stint in rehab and the ways in which it set him on the right path. He said he is now eating better, seeing clearer and is more in touch with his spiritual side.

“I was scared of this shit,” he said about dying. “Now, I just look at it like, ‘Man, when it’s the time, it’s the time.’ It’s almost like life is a school, and when you die, it’s graduation. When the higher power is ready for you to graduate, you’ll graduate. And obviously, I haven’t done what I’m supposed to here.”

Revealing that he now sleeps for up to 10 hours some nights after recovering from years of self-destructive tendencies, he added: “I guess I’m catching up for all the sleep that I wasn’t getting when I was drugging. And I’m having vivid, movie dreams.”

This is precisely why fans have been curious to see what Quaranta will sound like given that its first installment embodied a side of the rapper that no longer exists.
