Dame Dash discusses Jay-Z and R. Kelly collab album.
He goes on to add his own frustrations with not being able to help her through those emotions: “It was so much hurt for her to revisit it. I wouldn’t want to revisit it without a professional. Whatever got done was terrible.”
Dame dated Aaliyah until her death in 2001 and in this interview revealed how he felt about the Best of Both Worlds collaborative album that Kelly and Jay-z put together months after Aaliyah’s death, adding that he strongly opposed the collab, and revealing that Jay-Z was aware of Kelly’s alleged abuse of Aaliyah.
While Dame refused to be credited on the album, he did take the profits that he made from it and donated them to a breast cancer awareness organization that Aaliyah supported.
“If you remember The Best of Both Worlds, you don’t see my name on that.I never wanted no part of that,” he begins.
“I know I’m not fuckin’ with that […] I knew, morally, we weren’t the same,” Dash said, referring to JAY. “So, to me, Roc-a-Fella was defunct. It was over. I couldn’t fuck with it. It was something that, to me—I don’t wanna say ‘unforgivable,’ but I couldn’t understand it.”
