Cardi B Sets Record As Pardison Fontaine Tops Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop

Cardi B sets a new record with “Backin’ It Up.”

Cardi B now becomes the second woman ever to replace herself at No. 1 on the Billboard Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop airplay chart as Pardison Fontaine’s “Backin’ It Up” track claims the top spot on the chart this week. Previously, the slot was held by Cardi’s “Money,” which now slides down to No. 2.In addition, City Girls’ “Twerk,” which also features a verse from the Bronx rapper experiences a boost to go from No. 5 to No. 3 on the same chart, making Cardi the first woman and only the third act ever to hold the chart’s top three positions at the same time. The only other two artists to do so are Drake and Lil Wayne.

“Backin’ It Up” experiences its success thanks to a 9 percent boost in plays during the week ending March 3rd, putting an end to the five-week domination held by “Money.”

The only other woman to accomplish the feat of knocking themselves off the top with another song is Nicki Minaj who, in 2015, dethroned her appearance on Rae Sremmurd’s “Throw Some Mo” with her Drake and Wayne-assisted “Truffle Butter.”

In total, Cardi becomes the tenth act to do this.Nelly was the first when his “Hot in Herre” was bumped by his “Dilemma” in August of 2002. Drake holds the record for the most times to ever do this with a tally of six.
