The Notorious B.I.G. has gotten some “Respect” on Instagram with a fun new lens that allows fans to remix a 1994 classic from the New York legend.
In collaboration with tech company Minibeats, Warner announced the filter on Wednesday (May 31), which will include a DJ feature that allows fans to rewind and speed up Biggie’s “Respect” off his seminal debut Ready To Die.
“Casey & Finch better known as the founding members of KC & The Sunshine Band birthed a B-Side record, ‘I Get Lifted,’” Warner said in a statement. “Nearly 20 years later in 1994, Poke and Puff Daddy slowed down the pitch and sampled that iconic guitar and bass line pairing it with one of the greatest voices in Hip Hop, The Notorious B.I.G.’s lyrics on ‘Respect’ birthed a classic coming-of-age tale from Bad Boy to becoming the King of New York.”
The filter will be the first of three Warner has planned in tandem with Hip Hop’s 50th anniversary this year.
This is far from the first time the late Biggie Smalls’ legacy has been honored in an unconventional way. A limited edition Deadpool variant comic featuring The Notorious B.I.G. was released in 2022, and earlier this month the New York native and the popular Marvel character collaborated again, and teased an upcoming drop that includes a hoodie that looks similar to the cover of Deadpool‘s comic book featuring the New York rapper.
Currently, no release date has been announced, but it’s likely to happen soon. The news was also shared on Biggie’s Instagram Page, with a clip Reynolds as the Marvel star cryptically sharing the news.
Recently, Timbaland also faced major backlash after he shared a clip of himself using AI-generated vocals from the rapper for a new track, but he told Forbes it was all part of a plan to “commercialize artificial intelligence software” and revolutionize “how songs are made.”
“It’s going to really be a new way of creating and a new way of generating money with less costs,” he said. “I’m already here. This is what I’m doing. I’m going to lead the way.”
