The final of the 2018 Miss Africa beauty pageant was clouded by a rather strange moment when the winner’s wig appeared to catch fire on stage.
The representative from Congo, Dorcas Kasinde emerged winner of the pageantry after beating off competition from her other rivals.
The first runner-up position went to Nigeria’s Chimamaka Goodness Nnaemeka, while Zambia’s Gladys Kayumba emerged second runner-up.
However, while Kasinde was being crowned winner, her wig caught fire on stage, sparking a mild confusion.
Her hair caught fire due to stage fireworks which were let loose following the announcement that she had won.
The situation was, however, quickly contained as host of the show, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, hurriedly put off the fire.
The Congolese beauty queen took home $35,000 and a sports utility vehicle as her winning prize, while first and second runners-up were also given $10,000 and $5,000 respectively.
