Arsenal set lofty Eddie Nketiah price tag to deter January interest

Nketiah has seldom been a regular at the Emirates Stadium during his time in the first-team setup, though has come in as a starter during Gabriel Jesus’ spells on the treatment table over the last couple of seasons.

Even if the Gunners were more mindful of a sale, they would demand a figure close to £50m – Arsenal sold Folarin Balogun to Monaco over the summer for a transfer fee that could reach £35m, and they regard Nketiah as a superior player.

Due to Arsenal’s likely demands, Nketiah has fallen off the shortlists of several clubs. 90min understands Brentford, who have been increasingly tipped to make an offer amid Ivan Toney’s uncertain future, are not interested.

Nketiah has registered six goals and four assists in 23 games for Arsenal so far this season, though he has played more than 60 minutes in just 12 of these matches. He ended the 2022/23 campaign with nine goals and three assists in 39 games, though again he was used sparingly and towards the end of games for the majority of the season.

Arsenal tied Nketiah down to a contract that runs until 2027 at the end of the 2021/22 season in which he ended the campaign as their first-choice striker. The Gunners then brought in Jesus from Manchester City later that summer.
