Travelers were met with a pleasant surprise.
According to a spokesperson for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, it is TSA employees and airline employees who have control over music at certain terminals of the airport. It’s an interesting way to fight back as TSA agents continue to go unpaid in what is now the second-longest government shutdown ever.
Currently, 800,000 federal workers are being furloughed, receiving no pay whether or not they decide to come into work. A great number of TSA agents have been calling in sick, leading to greater delays at airports. But, apparently, those who do decide to show up will have some fun while they’re at it.
The shutdown began on December 22 and many Americans are now dealing with the reality of not receiving government benefits such as SNAP or their federal income tax returns until after February if this shutdown should continue. In addition to TSA Agents, air traffic controllers are among other federal workers who have not received payment under the shutdown.
