Akufo-Addo deserves more than the Noble Peace prize over peaceful Dagbon – Bugri Naabu
The maverick leading member of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Daniel Bugri Naabu has reiterated that, the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo merit a world peace award for bringing peace to the people of Dagbon.
Mr. Bugri Naabu said, Mr. Akufo-Addo deserves more than the Noble Peace Prize for peaceful Dagbon.
The over 16 years of protracted chieftaincy disputes between the Abudu and Andani royal families of Dagbon received a remarkable and solemn political will by the President, Nana Addo and his NPP government to chart the path of peace for the people of Dagbon.
Though not a political promise to the people of Dagbon, President Nana Addo upon assumption of office in 2017 initiated the process to continue the Dagbon roadmap mediation process by the three eminent chiefs to find lasting peace in Dagbon.
On November 2018, the committee of eminent chiefs led by the Asantehene and the two feuding gates (Abudu and Andani) presented the road map to the President, Nana Addo at the Jubilee House with both parties abiding to the Dagbon roadmap document.
The roadmap document saw the performance of the funeral rites of the late two overlords of Dagbon, Ya Naa Mahamdu Abdulai IV and Ya Naa Yakubu Andani II and the subsequent enskinment of a new Ya Naa for the Dagbon Kingdom.
According to the former NPP Northern Regional Chairman, the political will and posture of Nana Addo towards reconciliation and peaceful resolution of the Dagbon chieftaincy feud is unprecedented and surpass any ‘political will’ from his predecessors.
Mr. Naabu in an interview posited “Atta Mills tried he could not succeed, John Mahama tried he could not succeed, but it took Nana Addo two years to reconciled the two Royal Families of Dagbon. Nana Addo deserves world peace prize because he has brought peace to Dagbon and the Northern region. Now we will not be talking about Abudu and Andani but Dagbon and Northern Region. Nana Addo has done a wonderful job and people of the north is eternally indebted to him”.
Many opinions largely from the opposition NDC stalwarts suggested that, singling out only Nana Addo for praises on the Dagbon peace success will be unfair to many people have play major roles in the process including Mr. John Dramani Mahama and the three eminent chiefs on the mediation process led by the Asantehene Otumfuo Nana Osei Tutu II.
But the maverick leading NPP member said, the Dagbon peace process will have been halted just like in the NDC regime if the President, Nana Addo was not a peace maker, bold and decisive leader and a strong political will to bring peace to Dagbon at all cost.
“His Royal Majesty the Asantehene, His Royal Majesty the Yagbonwura and His Royal Majesty, the Nayiri all deserves praise for their immense contribution in the mediation process…. President Kufuor deserve a praise for his magnanimous insight for establishing the mediation committee but Nana Addo deserves more than a noble peace prize”. He said
Mr. Bugri Naabu noted that, “It takes a man of great character, peace and wisdom to bring peace to his community and Nana Addo has shown Ghana and the World that. He is a peace maker”.
