Snoop Dogg has lifted Tyrese‘s spirits in a phone call with the “depressed” actor.
Tyrese took to Instagram on Thursday (May 25) to tell his 17 million followers that he was struggling with depression, while also sharing audio of his conversation with his “big homie” Snoop.
“I was depressed and posting my raw vulnerabilities online,” he wrote. “God knows I needed this phone call from my big homie Snoop Dogg.”
In the call, Tha Doggfather praised Tyrese for being vulnerable on his upcoming album and showed him support during his tough time.
“See all these people that you naming? The record industry don’t respect them and don’t understand the fucking heavyweight shit that you dropping on this record,” Snoop Dogg said. “You saying them names to me, tickling me pink; you saying them names to a record label, you know what they’re gon’ say? That n-gga ain’t had a hit in 20 years. Shit on, n-gga, we finna stand tall with this shit, n-gga.
“This is mental health. This is relationships. This is all of the shit that the world is going through with in one package. And my n-gga dealing with it, you actually dealing with it through the pain of this record. You’re gonna help somebody else learn how to live through pain and make that a beautiful pain.”
Snoop continued: “You my n-gga, cuz. I’m not gon’ never let you put your muthafuckin’ head down and do nothing that ain’t appropriate. I’ma watch you from the sidelines, and then when God and them talk to me from upstairs, that’s when I’ma step in and do what Kim do. We work for the same God, my n-gga, you gotta know that.
“It ain’t no asking about all these angels is coming around you right now when you need them the most. Ain’t no suckers around you, only angels. Tell me I’m lying. They found their way away from you ’cause you godly now.”
Tyrese posted the clip shortly after a video surfaced of him claiming his ex-wife Samantha Lee, married him for “money” and “status” amid the pair battling it out in court.
“I left the courtroom during my divorce trial, and I realized that it was never love; it was just a transaction,” he said. “Wow, so we did whole marriage and did the whole duration of a child and starting a family, just to find out that it was all about money… status?”
He added: “Imagine me being the only actor in a relationship to then realize that I was in a relationship for five years with one of the best actors I’ve ever met in my fucking life.”
Earlier this year, Tyrese revealed his forthcoming double album Beautiful Pain was inspired by his recent divorce, opening up about the difficulty for men to be vulnerable and speak their truths when they’re going through something.
This isn’t the first time Snoop Dogg has shown his support for Tyrese over the years. When the actor’s mother passed away in February 2022, Snoop wrote in an Instagram post: “Stay strong I’ll come c u this week if u like to pray with u and hug u.”
