Year of Return: Greatest attraction of Ghana is its people – President Nana Addo
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo says Ghana’s tourism industry will strive if Ghanaians show positive attitudes to their environs and to visitors.
The “Year of Return, Ghana 2019” is a major landmark marketing campaign targeting the African – American and Diaspora Market to mark 400 years of the of the first enslaved African arriving in Jamestown Virginia.
The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) under the Auspices of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture is leading the project in collaboration with the Office of Diaspora Affairs at the Office of the President, the Panafest Foundation and the Adinkra Group of USA.
The Year of Return seeks to make Ghana the focus for millions of African descendants reacting to their marginalisation by tracing their ancestry and identity. By this, Ghana becomes the beacon for African people living on the continent and the diaspora.
But delivering his third State of the Nation Address (SONA) at Parliament House in Accra on Thursday, Akufo-Addo said tourists will be attracted to Ghana if they are our environment is clean.
According to him, sanitation is key if Ghana wants to top the list of destinations suggested for tourists to visit worldwide.
“We have breathtaking beaches but it is the people of Ghana and their attitude that are the strongest attraction. We all have the responsibility to make visitors feel welcomed. In this Year of Return, I will urge each one to make a visit to our country a memorable one. Our music, clothes and food will make visitors come back again and again.”
“…I will talk about sanitation habit. Public resources must be channeled to the cost of clearing and cleaning our cities. There has been significant improvement on sanitation even though more must be done,” he said.
