Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Hon Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has advised the Electoral Commission of Ghana to work hard to resolve the challenges affecting the pace of the national limited voter registration exercise.
The MP after visiting some registration centers in his constituency expressed his concern about the seeming lack of interest on the part of constituents who are not registered voters and encouraged them to register in order to be able to exercise their political rights.
He said: “I have been visiting EC Registration Centres in my beloved constituency on the first day of the National Limited Voters Registration Exercise. Let us all get involved and encourage potential first time voters who have attained the age of 18 to take full advantage of their Article 42 rights and get registered.
“It is my expectation that the EC will work to resolve challenges that have led to painfully slow processes at some centres as I witnessed in order to avoid voter suppression. We wish all actors a successful exercise. I must thank Joshua of Mepe for his very kind bike ride to the village of Dadome.”
The Electoral Commission on June 17, 2019 begun a Limited Voters’ Registration exercise nationwide, to register Ghanaians who have turned 18 since the last registration as well as those who, for one reason or another, have never registered to do so.
It forms part of the Commission’s preparations towards the conduct of the 2019 district level election of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) scheduled for Tuesday December 10, 2019.
