Wiz Khalifa has joined the club of Hip Hop A-listers who have recently sold a chunk of their catalogs, though the terms of the Taylor Gang leader’s transaction are yet to be disclosed.
On Thursday (July 6), global investment firm HarbourView Equity Partners closed a deal with the Pittsburg rapper for a portion of his discography and publishing assets. The agreement covers multiple albums, mixtapes and singles that span his prolific career.
Speaking on the partnership, Wiz said in a press release: “[Founder and CEO] Sherrese [Clarke Soares] and HarbourView truly understand the value of music and artistry. We are excited to partner with them as they continue to build a dynamic media company that is in line with the values and goals we all have here at Taylor Gang.”
The deal includes hits such as “The Thrill,” “Black & Yellow” and “See You Again,” the latter two of which were nominated for Grammy Awards.
Another artist who sold half of his catalog to HarbourView recently is Nelly. The St. Louis hitmaker bagged a whopping $50million deal earlier this week by selling half of his discography. This includes eight albums spanning a string of hits, a lot of which played a crucial role in elevating 21st-century Hip Hop and R&B.
As part of the agreement, he handed over some of his biggest tracks such as “Hot In Herre” and “Dilemma,” among several others. Both of the aforementioned songs won Grammy Awards. Additionally, “Shake Ya Tailfeather” also won Nelly the prestigious accolade, though it is still unclear whether that was included in the deal or not.
Last year, Future sold a huge chunk of his publishing catalog of songs from 2004 and 2020 to US-based music and rights company Influence Media Partners, and walked away with a massive eight-figure payday. The deal included 612 songs by the Southern rapper.
Logic also sold off a portion of his catalog to Influence Media Partners for an undisclosed eight-figure sum. The partnership, which was announced last month, includes 185 of the Maryland rapper’s songs.
While in March, Metro Boomin became $70million richer after selling a portion of his existing publishing catalog to Shamrock Capital.
