Wendy Shay joins Mothering the Nation foundation to feed over 1800 orphans

As part of activities to mark this year’s Mother’s Day celebrations, fast-rising musician, Wendy Shay joined Mothering the Nation Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organisation on Sunday, May 12, to feed and entertain children from some selected orphanages across the country.

The initiative, which was attended by over 1,800 children from about 32 orphanages, was aimed at providing motherly love to those who were unfortunate to experience that from their biological mothers.

The children were provided with foods and drinks and were entertained by songstress, Wendy Shay.

Speaking to the press at the event, Lawyer Sarah Fafa Kpodo, Founder, Mothering the Nation, said their expectation is to have a positive impact on the lives of the children in order to play a role in the development of the country.
She indicated that her foundation was committed in providing support to orphanages in the country, hence the program.

“I created this NGO and what we do is that we help most of the kids in the orphanages, but on mother’s day which is a day that they remember the most because they don’t have mothers to celebrate the mother’s day with, we bring them together and we have competitions among themselves,” she explained.

Touching on what motivated her to establish the foundation, she stated that, “I picked that up when was young and promised myself that I was going to have a foundation that will lift and inspire and impact in children who in one way or the other don’t have the love of a mother.”

Highlighting some of the challenges the organization has faced over the past 14 years, she said raise funds to support the program has been difficult, but expressed her gratitude to First Atlantic Bank, Bel Aqua and Yabos Food Truck Company for their support.

On his part, Mr Patrick Dadey, an Executive Director of the foundation noted that the motive of the occasion was to ensure that the children learned something from the activities, so that in the end they will become better people that would benefit the entire nation.

“We want to create awareness of their plight and create a better life for them. You don’t have to do it on this scale, just helping one child is a step in the right direction,” he urged.

Managing Partner of Yabos Food Truck Company Dzifa Ababio said his outfit was all about giving back to society hence the decision to partner with the foundation.

He said “It’s all about giving back really, giving back to orphans and to people in need. It gives us a sense of purpose and fulfilment and that’s what our business is about. “

“What’s the essence of making money without giving back?” he quizzed.
Some activities at the events included dancing competition, spelling bees, video games, and quizzes.

Kidnapping

Lawyer Kpodo expressed worry about the kidnapping of the three girls at Takoradi in the Western Region.
She was of the opinion that, improved security at schools will help reduce the occurrence of the situation.
“We need to have strong security at the schools,” she highlighted, and continued that, “if there is armed security in some of the schools, I don’t think these people (kidnappers) will be able to go there and do it.”
