Ghanaian gospel artiste, Gifty Adorye formerly Gifty Osei has revealed that the Executive members of the Greater Accra Regional branch of MUSIGA do fund all projects and events with their own monies.
Empress Gifty stated that there was no money in the union’s account when they assumed office and thus they had to rely on the dues that were paid by the members.
“There was no money when we assumed office as MUSIGA Executive for the Greater Accra regional branch. For instance, there was no one to come and say take this Ghc5000. It was just the dues we as members paid that we depended on.” Empress Gifty told Kojo Preko Dankwa
Explaining the financial records as the outgoing treasurer of the Greater Accra Regional branch of MUSIGA, Empress Gifty told the host of Kasapa Entertainment, Kojo Preko Dankwa that the past eight years has been a very difficult one.
“My office per se was very difficult for me to operate there because we have to fund everything from our pockets.” Empress Gifty added
She explained that the system of MUSIGA is not working because there were no funds coming from the national level. Gifty again added that even the percentage from registered members had never reached or gotten to her desk.
“The system itself is not working. If the system were working, then whenever someone registers, Greater Accra should have a percentage but the percentage never comes. That’s what should have been helping the Greater Accra Region. But since I resumed office, I have not received it.” She said
Empress Gifty lamented that the Greater Accra Regional branch of MUSIGA has not been able to operate properly because they lack the needed logistics.
“My issue is that there was an office for Greater Accra which inhabited Ras Caleb who is our leader, Aunty Kakra the vice, I and the organizer. We were a whole team. But if what is supposed to hold the team for it to stand is not there, then you can easily fall.” Empress Gifty lamented.
Mrs. Gifty Adorye indicated that although she is a member and an executive of MUSIGA, Greater Accra branch, she would like to talk about herself more and not about the Union because there are paid people whose jobs are to talk professionally for and on behalf of the Musician’s Association of Ghana.
She further added that despite the fact that her term in office as MUSIGA treasurer is coming to an end, she has not yet decided on whether to contest again or not.
