#WAI: 15 errant drivers arrested in Kumasi to be arraigned
Fifteen persons are set to appear before a court for committing various traffic offences on the Kentinkrono and Tech Junction stretch in Kumasi.
The Ashanti Regional Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) in an exercise on Sunday also impounded nine cars at the Tech Police station.
This exercise, which seeks to enforce road traffic regulations in the Ashanti region started on Sunday.
These persons include, KNUST Deputy Registrar, Mr. Ben Andoh, a principal of the College of Education among others. They admitted to their offences.
Mr. Ben Andoh, a lawyer who’s also a Deputy Registrar at KNUST just like the other drivers caught over speeding, was moving at top speed few metres to a pedestrian crossing area.
Steve Amoako who was caught for over-speeding however wants the police to punish some drivers of commercial vehicles popularly known as trotro, who drive carelessly on the road.
A young man, Michael Anane who is a driver of a commercial vehicle that was carrying about 15 passengers, was arrested for “drunk driving” after he was caught over speeding.
Upon interrogation on the scene, he admitted that he took in the alcohol in the morning before starting work.
After his admission, the passengers in his vehicle who were previously furious with police for stopping them, later said they were glad the police embarked on the exercise.
They called on the police to intensify their efforts in that regard.
Some drivers were also caught for overloading.
Passengers were driven to the Tech Police Station and made to board other vehicles as their cars were impounded.
Many of the traffic offenders waited and pleaded for hours and frustration was drawn all over their faces as they were told they would be processed for court.
In all, 15 persons are supposed to be processed for court.
