It has been more than a year since music group VVIP released a song, though members keep embarking on solo projects.
VVIP, formerly VIP, emerged in the early stages of hiplife.
The acclaimed group has rich credentials, a feat rooted in their classics and proud achievements.
But to many, VIP has struggled to maintain a consistent line-up, as the group has often been fraught with break-aways.
It used to be a five-member group, but group members ‘Friction’ and ‘Bone’ exited, leaving Promzy, Zeal & Prodigal to still keep the ‘Vision in Progress’.
In 2013, Promzy also exited the group, leaving behind 2 members.
The Godfather of hiplife, Reggie Rockstone, replaced Promzy, and the group’s name subsequently changed to VVIP.
The new VVIP has since produced hits like Selfie, Skolom and Koliko, but the group appears to have been dormant over the past year.
Critics believe the pioneers of hiplife are struggling to stay united, and suspect the centre is no longer holding.
Over the years, the group has had an interesting history of members leaving with the regular excuse of embarking on solo projects.
Bone, Friction & more recently, Promzy, left under the pretext of embarking on solo projects.
Reggie Rockstone insists they are still together as a group although each one of the group members seems to be busy going about their solo projects.
With the history of having members exit the group with the ‘excuse’ of embarking on individual projects, is this another hint of someone exiting the group?
Reggie Rockstone, who has been speaking in an interview with speaking to TV3’s Owusu Worae, insists they are still together although very little has been heard of them in terms of music releases in the past year.
“If you are away for a year, that is nothing…we have different priorities, and sometimes, you need to gauge the crowd. If you really have nothing to say, then don’t say anything till you have something to say.
“There is an album loading, and working on an album is nothing like singles.
“You have to take your time and bring everything together. Between that time, everybody has got their projects; some are putting up buildings, some are doing other private projects,” Reggie Rockstone explained.
