US Navy band visits Nigeria
The United States Navy brass band has interacted and thrilled some students of the Department of Arts in the University of Lagos after it held a masterclass with the U.S. Naval Forces Europe Band.
Held at the rooftop of The Lekki Coliseum, Lekki, Lagos, the Italy based US band, as part of efforts to strengthen ties with partner nations throughout Europe and Africa, performed to the excitement and euphoria of the arts students. The soldiers performance, as they garbed in their uniforms and carrying different musical instruments- and at some point, alongside the university band- was unforgettable as the troupe observed their week-long public diplomacy outreach in Lagos.
Not only did the band entertain students, among the audience were members of the Nigeria Trumpet Group and the Eko Brass Band when it jointly performed with the students band after the masterclass. The combined sounds from a saxophone, trumpet, bass, cymbals among other instruments produced harmonious chorals that wowed the audience.
The US Navy band visit to Nigeria, organised by the Public Affairs Section of the United States Consulate General, Lagos, is also in support of the ongoing 2019 Obangame Express, an annual multinational maritime exercise on the Gulf of Guinea.
Diverse range of Western and African music characterized the performances.
