THEY. are paving their own lane in the music industry right now. Their sound is rooted in R&B, but they take different influences from other genres and blend it in with what they’re doing to deliver a refreshing take on the genre. Citing artists such as Kurt Cobain and Taking Back Sunday as two of many influences, a lot of the production in their songs have a guitar element. We recently sat down with the R&B duo to hear their take on some of the hottest guitar-driven tracks right now

THEY. recently sat down with us to give us their take on some of the hottest tracks out that include guitar. The duo shared their take on tracks from Lil Peep, Lil Baby and Gunna, Moneybagg Yo and more. One track in particular that both Dante Jones and Drew Love praised is Travis Scott’s “Yosemite” with Gunna. Jones praised Scott’s incorporation of guitar on the track, saying, “Travis is really tasteful with how he incorporates live elements.”

“I love the bounce on that one, too. It’s not just straight eighth notes. It’s kinda like has groove to it. Kinda laid back,” he added.

Drew praised how Scott and Mike Dean use of guitar complimented the drums and air flute. Jones added, “I just like stuff that has that musicality to it, you know what I’m saying? Not just, ‘Oh, it’s a loop.”

The two also shared their opinion on Lil Wayne’s “Mess.” Although the two praised the track, Love said that he felt the guitar element could’ve evolved more. “I do personally like that song, but we’re speaking of the guitar element in the song, I don’t know, I felt like it could’ve sat in its own world with a whole bunch of different things.”

Jones added, “It definitely could’ve developed a little bit more, but I mean, the vibe was there which is the main thing… Whenever they brought in the bass, like, I feel like that set it off ’cause it kind of gives you an unexpected chord progression.
