SZA Celebrates Scoring First No. 1 Single: ‘I’m So Grateful!’

SZA has not only had the No. 1 album in the country for the last four weeks straight, but she now has her first No. 1 single to go with it.

On Monday (January 9), Billboard confirmed that SZA’s “Kill Bill” track had topped their Global 200 chart. The Billboard Global 200 ranks songs based on streaming and sales activity accumulated from more than 200 territories around the world.

In a tweet, the New Jersey-based singer expressed gratitude for the new accolade. “Number one GLOBALLY is incredible!!” SZA tweeted.

She added: “I’m so GRATEFUL! Thank you to everyone around the world listening to SOS and kill bill.”

The TDE singer’s sophomore LP SOS topped the Billboard 200 for its fourth straight week on the same day, bringing in an additional 125,000 units.

The achievement puts SZA in rare company as SOS becomes the first R&B album by a woman to spend its first four weeks at No. 1 since Janet Jackson’s 1993 LP janet. almost 30 years ago.

“I don’t have shit to say but thank you to God my ancestors my family my team and ALL OF YOU THAT RIDE FOR ME ! ESPECIALLY CAMP!!” SZA wrote in response to the news. “Y’all my family too [white heart emoji] we have so much more to come.”

The singer recently spoke to Glamour about SOS, saying she was unapologetically herself at every turn on the album.

“It’s about heartbreak, it’s about revenge, it’s about being pissed,” she said. “I’ve never raged the way that I should have. This is my villain era, and I’m very comfortable with that. It is in the way I say no, it’s in the way I’m deciding what I’m taking, what I’m not taking. It’s in the fucked up things that I don’t apologize for.

“I am a bitch — it’s not all the time, but when I am, that’s okay,” she continued. “I don’t have to spend my whole life trying to be a nice girl. It’s just not who I am. But I am a good person.”

Next month, SZA will take the album on the road on her first-ever arena trek, bringing singer Omar Apollo along for the ride.

The 17-date tour kicks off in Columbus, Ohio on February 21. From there, SZA will hit other cities such as Chicago, Detroit, Toronto, Boston, New York City, Atlanta and Dallas before closing things out in Los Angeles on March 22. Tickets are on sale now here.
