Suspect fine GHC1,200 for stealing
The Suhum Municipal Court presided over by Ms Rhoda Donkor has fined a notorious criminal, Frank Oppong, 20, an amount of GhC1,200.00 or in default serve 12 months in prison in hard labour for stealing.
Oppong was accused of conniving with two juveniles, of 16 and 17 years of age to steal.
The two juveniles who are students of a Junior High School(JHS) have been referred to the Juvenile Court.
The three suspects pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Prosecuting, Detective Inspector Emmanuel Otu, told the court that Oppong, is the nephew of the complainant, Mr Daniel Gbogbolotey, a 50-year-old herbal doctor in charge of Enka-Akyie Herbal Clinic at Tetenku in the Ayensuano District of the Eastern Region.
He said, Oppong lived together with the complainant and support him in the preparation of herbal medicines for his patients.
Inspector Otu said on May 24, this year, whiles the complainant was away, the three suspects broke into the room of Mr Gbogbolotey and made away with his GhC7,000.00 which he had kept in a box hidden in his bedroom.
Inspector Otu said, the complainant got to know that his money had been stolen three days after the incident when he found his money box at a rubbish dump, he confronted Oppong, who admitted the offence.
He said the complainant reported the incident to the police and Oppong was arrested.
Inspector Otu said during Police interrogation, Oppong mentioned the other two suspects as accomplices in the act and they were also arrested.
