Stop twisting my words – KiDi to media
Ghanaian Highlife and Afrobeat singer, Dennis Nana Dwamena, known in showbiz as Kidi, has urged the media to stop misquoting artistes and be circumspect in their reportage and publications.
According to the ‘Odo’ hitmaker, twisted and fabricated stories, as well as negative reportage, have a way of affecting artistes internationally.
Kidi said: “What people fail to realise is that all these stories go straight to Google, internationally. When someone types your name like [kidi], these articles come on Google and if someone wants to help you and he will type your name on Google and see all these news that Kidi has done this, has done that, meanwhile, there is nothing like that.”
Speaking in an interview with Nana Romeo on Ayekoo Ayekoo on Accra 100.5FM on Thursday, 7 February 2019, he added: “I went for an interview and I was asked if I will be happy if I win the artiste of the year award, and I answered: ‘Yes, I think I deserve it, so, I will thank God’. And they asked: ‘If I don’t win, who do I think can win?’ And I said Kuami Eugene. The next day I saw a headline: ‘Kidi says VGMA is for him; only Kuami Eugene can stop him’, which is not true, they have to stop that.”
He further explained that false reportage will lead to boring interviews if the trend does not end.
“Interviews will soon be boring because if I come to an interview and you ask me a question, I’ll say next, which won’t help us, so, we need to publish the right things”.
“I know you want people to click and go to your websites but please publish the right news, if you don’t you are tarnishing someone’s image because, to be honest, when you visit social media like Facebook, over 60 to 70 per cent of people don’t read the stories, but if you read the comments, it’s very bad.
“I’m human, someone’s child, I also feel bad when I read these comments and the insults. Meanwhile, I haven’t said anything but the bloggers give these people the chance to insult me. They should publish the right thing, write what I say.”
