Stonebwoy, Shatta break silence on VGMA ban

Dancehall act, Stonebwoy, isn’t happy with the decision by Charterhouse, organisers of Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA), to ban him and colleague musician, Shatta Wale from the awards scheme.

The two acts engaged in a brawl during the awards ceremony where Stonebwoy pulled a gun after Shatta Wale mounted the stage uninvited with his team.

The chaos resulted in the two being arrested and subsequently put before a court and are set to reappear on June 20, 2019.

On the back of the chaos and arrests, Charterhouse and the VGMA Board banned the musicians and asked them to return the awards they won on the night.

But Stonebwoy, addressing the media in a “peace press conference” organised for the two acts said should Charterhouse lift the ban placed on them, they would be ready to work with them.

He said stripping them of the awards was a big blow to their various brands as entertainers.

He added that he was surprised that Charterhouse or the VGMA Board failed to share the blame for the chaos that happened.

“If they do decide by their discretion to lift the ban, I would want them to understand that we are willing and hoping to work [with them]. We have been banned, awards stripped and it’s a low blow to us since it can affect us,” he noted.

“We’ve heard people say they can do without us but these are trying times for which we have to admit our faults. We apologised but Charterhouse and the VGMA board haven’t said anything for their involvement,” Stonebwoy explained.

Shatta Wale supported Stonebwoy’s assertion, promising to be of good behaviour and in return asked the media to support and push their brands to the highest point.
