Versatile Ghanaian musician, Emmanuel Andrews Samini, known in Showbiz as Samini, has revealed that fellow dancehall and reggae artiste Stonebwoy is not his rival.
Stonebwoy, who was Samini’s protégé, has established himself as one of the best artistes in Africa by picking awards for the Best International Act, Africa at the 2015 BET Awards; and Artiste of the Year at the 2015 Ghana Music Awards, among other international nominations and acknowledgements.
Some entertainment critics have suggested that Stonebwoy has outshined Samini, especially when it comes to dancehall music.
Samini, who recently launched his seventh album titled Untamed, was asked by DJ Premier (Bismarck Boachie) on the Entertainment Capital show on Accra100.5 FM on Saturday, 4 January 2019 if other artistes, especially his former protégé is a threat to his superiority and career.
Samini responded: “No! Not at all. That is not possible”.
Samini, who was recently installed as the Pibilii Naa (King of The Little Rocks) by the Wa Na, Paramount Chief of Wa in the Upper West Region, said “it is good competition” for the emergence of several other musicians within the genres of music that he does.
He added that he feels challenged only “by my own achievements and by myself” and not other artistes.
Samini’s ‘Untamed’ album was recently listed among the best 10 reggae albums on the World Billboard Chart.
Samini has also earned a nomination at this year’s Reggaeville Awards in the Album of the year category.
